Sarah Jessica Parker is a slow-aged Gouda of an actress: smooth, warm, with crystals of something sharper buried deep inside. She rarely announces what she is doing on screen. She almost always knows exactly what she is doing. Footloose gave her an early role as a girl learning to dance in a town that forbids it, and she played the opening up without fuss. L.A. Story let her be funny and a little lost at once, and the performance sits light until you realise how much thought went into the lightness. Honeymoon in Vegas paired her with Nicolas Cage in a film that could have curdled into broad comedy, but Parker kept the character grounded, playing a woman caught between two men with genuine hurt underneath the chaos. Ed Wood cast her as an actress on a film set, and she brought a kind of dreamy professionalism to a world of eccentrics. But the real proof is Carrie Bradshaw across twenty-five years. She played a woman thinking out loud in a cosmopolitan New York, and somehow made self-absorption feel like philosophy. The television series rewarded patience, and Parker gave it, finding new layers in Carrie's confusion and vanity year after year. When And Just Like That brought the character back older, she showed how little had changed and how much had, the same woman carrying all her previous mistakes forward like sediment. Parker does not rush scenes. She lets them warm up, and that is where the depth lives.
