Jonathan Harker
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The worst accent of all time? Most probably. But somehow slightly endearing.

Keanu Reeves is a slow-aged Gouda: smooth, warm, deceptively soft on first meeting, with crystals of something harder buried deep inside. He has spent three decades refusing to play the obvious version of any role. Start with My Own Private Idaho. Mike is a street hustler moving through the world half asleep, and Reeves plays the numbness without asking for pity, letting the hurt sit underneath. Point Break gave him an FBI agent undercover in a surfing gang, and he brought the same careful restraint to a blockbuster setup, never winking at the absurdity. The Matrix asked him to carry the weight of the entire film, and he did it by doing almost nothing: a man learning to move through the world with his eyes half closed. Constantine is the opposite register, a man talking fast to cover the fear, and Reeves let the exhaustion show through every syllable. He moves between registers without strain. A Scanner Darkly crumbles him down to something fractured and paranoid. Speed keeps him grounded when the whole film is trying to tip into hysteria. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is all looseness and timing, a man who knows exactly when to hold back the joke. The Replacements asked for warmth and he gave it without ever becoming soft. Reeves plays characters who are trying to hold themselves together, and he has the patience to show you the cracks forming. That crystalline centre, the one that holds everything up, is what you remember long after the film ends.
