The Odyssey
I feel like I see this actor in everything but never know where he’s from! I feel like his acting in this moving absolutely floored me and I won’t forget him.

John Leguizamo is a washed-rind cheese that refuses to sit still: pungent, restless, always moving toward the next interesting thing. He works best when the role lets him crackle a little. Start with Carlito's Way. Benny Blanco is all swagger and calculation, and Leguizamo plays the loyalty underneath the flash without ever softening the edge. To Wong Foo gives him Chi-Chi Rodriguez, a drag queen on the road, and he finds the tenderness in the performance without dropping the bite. Summer of Sam is where the intensity shows most: a man caught between worlds, and Leguizamo lets the pressure sit visible on the skin. In The Lincoln Lawyer, he is a small supporting role that leaves a mark; in The Menu, he brings the same crackling energy to a kitchen full of tension. He does not disappear into a scene. He arrives in it. The voice work is constant, a whole other career: Sid in Ice Age carries a nervous energy that never settles, and Bruno in Encanto builds a man held together by ritual and fear. Whether live action or animated, whether leading or supporting, Leguizamo commits to the restlessness. The rind stays interesting because he never lets it smooth over.
