Ella Bright is a fresh curd with surprising steel running through it. Young on the surface, already shaped by serious work, and getting more interesting with every role she takes on. Malory Towers is where to start. Darrell Rivers arrives at boarding school ready to lead, and Bright plays the confidence without making it annoying, finding the girl underneath the captain's armband. The Crown placed her as young Kate Middleton, a smaller role that asked for composure and presence in a room full of much bigger names, and she held her ground. Off Campus gave her Hannah Wells, a character who carries a whole series' heart, and Bright meets that weight head on. She does not coast through scenes. Even in the smaller moments, something is working underneath. The crumbly edges are already showing: a willingness to play unsympathetic choices, to let a character sit uncomfortable for as long as the scene needs. Bright melts slowly into a role, and that is exactly why she stays with you.
