'Gone-off Gouda'
Based on 1 reviews of 1 performances

Dakota Johnson is a slow-aged Gouda, smooth and warm on the surface, with crystals of something harder underneath that catch you by surprise. She arrives in a scene with the kind of ease that reads as effortless until you realise how much control she is holding. Watch her in The Lost Daughter. Maggie is a woman trying to stay small, and Johnson plays the performance almost entirely in what she does not say, in the space between wanting to help and knowing she cannot. A Bigger Splash lets her sit across from bigger personalities and somehow claim the room just by listening. Bad Times at the El Royale is proof of her range: she moves between registers like she is trying on different skins, funny and then frightening in the span of a look. The Peanut Butter Falcon shows her opposite a performer learning the craft, and she gives him space without ever losing her own gravity. She does not announce herself. She settles into a role the way aged cheese settles into a plate: taking up exactly as much room as it needs, changing the flavour of everything around it.
