Anya Taylor-Joy is a washed-rind cheese: unusual choices, sharp angles, and a flavour that rewards patience. She arrived fully formed, which is rare. Start with The Witch. Thomasin moves through supernatural horror without a flicker of vanity, holding the family's fear and her own terror in the same still face. Split split her across a dozen personalities, and Taylor-Joy made each one land without ever losing the core of the woman underneath. The Queen's Gambit showed the range: Beth Harmon as a chess prodigy learning to be human, and Taylor-Joy played the loneliness so quietly you felt it in your ribs. Emma. gave her a chatterer, all surface brightness and misguided certainty, and she made you understand the girl beneath the prattle. Last Night in Soho is pure unsettling control, a woman slipping between decades and sanity with barely a blink. She does not soften a scene. She does not ask you to like her characters first. The Menu proved she could carry a blockbuster with the same precision she brought to indie horror, every micro-expression a choice. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga put her in an action film and she brought the same watchfulness, all fury and focus. Taylor-Joy's rind keeps getting more interesting because she refuses the easy choice. She tastes stranger every time, and that is exactly the point.
